Shakespeare from Kabul

This hour-long observational documentary for BBC Four and BBC Persian follows a group of Afghan actors as they prepare to perform The Comedy of Errors at Shakespeare's Globe. I pitched this original idea and then filmed on location in Kabul for the initial casting, in rural India during the rehearsal period, and then at the final show in London.

The film explored complex issues around the role of women in Afghan society, as well as tracing the resonances between Shakespearean England and contemporary Kabul. Awarded Eutelsat Best Documentary Award.
